Oh the places we'll go. (New Experiences for Jo and Ariana through pictures)


In India they have tuktuks. They are also known as rickshaws. They have have three wheels, they are smaller to our cars and they have no doors and windows. (Ari)

We went to a Dam which was a 3 hour hike. I saw buffalos swimming in the river. The lady who owned the buffalos was washing them (Jo)

We went with a taxi driver to a Mountain Village. It was called Matheran. The colour on the ground was red. In Matheran you are not allowed to drive cars. We rode the horses around town. (Ari)

Ariana is at Grampari. Grampari is a place that runs environmental workshops. The calf which Ariana is patting is an indigenous cow. The special thing about the calf is that is has a hump on its upper back. (Jo)

We went to Grampari because we booked into a class learning Mallakhamb which is an Indian Martial Arts using a rope. It was hurting between my toes. I put my toes in the string and climbed up (Ari)

When we were coming back from the Dam we had to take a bus to Wai and we had some sugar cane juice while we were waiting. This plant is where sugar comes from. (Jo)

We made garlands out of flowers and leaves. The leaves smelled like mango because it was a mango tree. We made a garland because it was Dussehra. On Dussehra we put garlands on machines and tools to appreciate what they have done for us. (Ari and mum)

We went to a school for international hand wash day. We learned a song to remember how to wash our hands properly. The School was quite different from Waikino. They had no swings, slides, playground, there we no desks or chairs and the kids were very nice. They spoke Marathi which is the common language for Maharastra. Maharastra is a state in India. (Jo)

This man is turning cotton into thread. It looked like sheeps wool but it came from a plant called cotton (Jo)

In India ladies often carry things on their head. (Jo)

I made a new friend. Her name is Elsie. She is my best friend in India and she has two brothers called Harry and Tipu. Tipu is Jo's friend and Harry is two and Elsie is 9 and Tipu is 11. (Ari)

At AP I made lots of friends from around the world. I have made friends from France, Lebanon, Sudan, India, Taiwan , Tibet and Kenya. I have learned that in Taiwan 9 is a bad number and in Lebanon their flag has a tree. (Jo)

We saw a frog in the pond and my uncle was with me. (Ari)

At Grampari there is an organic farm and they make poo mixed with Jaggery which is something that comes from the sugar cane. They mix it and it becomes fertiliser. And they use it to grow rice. The special thing about this rice is that it doesnt grow in a pond. (Jo)

This is the vegetable market. We have tried new fruits like Coconut, custard apple, pomegranate, quava, pineapple and pawpaw. (Ari)

Monkeys are always cheeky. They roam around everywhere. These monkeys stole my chips. And how, you ask?. Well dad was holding the chips while the cheeky monkey came up to him. The monkey quickly swiped it off dad , climbed the tree , opened the packet and started eating. (Jo)

This is a toilet called a pit toilet. You put your feet out and you squat. (Ari)

These are the indigenous seeds. These are seed are here to trade with farmers for other indigenous seeds There are all kinds of different seeds. (Jo)

In India you often see kids, adults and toddlers on the motorbike, and they dont wear helmets (Jo)

I picked lots of mulberries. I ate lots too and my mouth and teeth turned red. (Ari)

The food is very tasty. I have become a hand eater and a vegetarian. Each indian meal usually has rice, chapatti, curd (yoghurt)dhal and a type of curry. (Jo)

These kids kids are selling pinwheels. They were not going to school. I guess they are trying to help their family with money. (Jo)

We were making flags and pictures for Diwali. We made it out of leaves and curry and flowers and sticks and different colours. It is called Rangoli. (Ari)

This is Diwali where we celebrate Rama the King who came from exile from the jungle. He was a mighty king and a fair king and the most important thing in Diwali is lights which symbolises Rama coming back from the jungle. (Jo)

This man is Gandhi. He got shot. He was a good man because he helped the poor people. (Ari)

This is Gandhi and he brought Independence to India from the British with peace. He was a brave and generous man. (Jo)
